METAGAMING
--------------

In role-playing games, a player is Metagaming when they use knowledge that is not available to their character in order to change the way they play their character.

Metagaming gives an advantage within the game, such as knowledge of character statistics, levels, races, classes etc.
Metagaming refers to any gaps between player knowledge (OOC) and character knowledge (IC) which the player acts upon while in character.

A Metagamer does not act in a way that reflects the character's in-game experiences and back-story.

See this link for more details:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metagaming_(role-playing_games)

Examples of Metagaming would be:

* Addressing the player by their name when you have not role played an introduction and you've never met previously.

* Making comments about their life in the role play sim....such as knowing their clan/faction without being told that information in role play.

* Making use of their meter stats in game and example of this would be say you were a level 1 vampire and a level 7 vampire challenged you and you avoided the battle because you felt you couldn't compete against that level based on reading their meter.

If you are new to role play you can use an ingame tool in your Preferences, then General, Show Names and then tick Never...this will remove their tags which will force you to obtain information "in game" so you don't fall into the metagaming trap.
Unfortunately the only tool you can use with the CCS meter is the /9 hidestats command.
This will take your race/classification out but your health and stamina line will remain.

GODMODING
--------------

Godmoding is a term used in role-playing games to describe two poor behaviours of players. Godmoding is almost always frowned upon by other members of the game, because it is regarded as a form of cheating against the game's rules.

Passive Godmoding

Godmoding can occur when a character describes an event or a series of events he or she has taken against another character or interactive object.

Godmoding is thus often used like a "Get Out of Jail Free card" when things don't go the way a player wants, rather than working with previously unfolded events.
It is also used to describe the act of creating or playing with an invincible character or unbreakable armor, limitless power, etc.

Some players will create a brand new character, and that character is automatically gifted with skills, and nearly impossible to take on right from the start.
This happens when a newer character goes against an established one, and the newer character god-modes themselves as if they've been around the same length of time.

Active Godmoding

Godmoding can also refer to the case where a player definitively describes the outcome of their own actions against another character or interactive object.
For example, if player A states, "A strikes B and B takes damage", they could be considered to be godmoding.
Another example of this might be where a character is facing multiple enemies, and they redirect one foe's attack onto another.
For example, Player A states, "B misses A completely, and strikes C instead."

Similarly, controlling characters that belong to someone else is also a form of godmoding.

Player A: Character A throws a punch at Character B.
Player B: Character B dodges the attack, grabs Character A and throws him out of a stained glass window.

or

Character A flies at Character B, who warps behind him and slashes Character A in the back.

Appropriate ways to RP avoiding Godmoding would be to 'attempt' to do things to the other play, or describe the outcome you would expect if your action was successful.

An example of a non godmoded post -

Player A lunges towards Payer B, attempting to grapple them to the ground, fully intending to bite them if they were able to overpower them, she would expect them to fall very heavily to the ground, if they weren't able to meet her impact, possibly knocking them senseless for a second or two, or even forcing their breath out of them at the very least.

An appropriate response could then possibly be:

Player B is taken by surprise at Player A's sudden movement, catching him off guard just long enough for him to be knocked to the ground, he would crunch down hard with the extra weight bearing on him and his breath is forced out leaving him gasping. as his head riccochets off the concrete he feels the tear of his skin as Player A sinks in his teeth. Player B struggles to gain control, and would flip Player A off him if he were able. He would strain his arm muscles in an attempt to roll him off and scramble to safety.

Fade to Black:
---------------

Fade to black is a term used in role play sims to finish a role play that has possibly gone bad.
An example would be player A has perhaps ignored the role play limits or was unaware of the role play limits of player B and player B wishes to remove themself from the role play.
They can simply type ((Fade to Black)) and then under most sim laws they can leave the role play as it is ended.
If you find yourself in an impossible role play that you are not comfortable completing this is one way of removing yourself from the role play scene.
However please do NOT overuse it...make use of your "About section" or one of your "picks" in your profile and list your role play limitations. That way when someone does start a role play scene with you they can plan the role play with that information in mind and avoid a "fade to black" situation.
